Selling globally

Tenora works with Shopify Markets, so you can sell in many countries, languages and currencies. This page explains what the theme does and what you set up in your Shopify admin.

Languages

Storefront translations

Tenora includes storefront translations for English and 30 other languages:

Bulgarian, Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Lithuanian, Norwegian (Bokmål), Polish, Portuguese (Brazil), Portuguese (Portugal), Romanian, Russian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish, Thai, Turkish and Vietnamese.

These translations cover all text that the theme adds, such as buttons, labels, cart messages and the "Will it fit?" results. Plural forms follow the rules of each language.

The theme editor is available in English and 20 other languages.

To add a language to your store:

  1. In your Shopify admin, go to Settings → Languages.
  2. Add the language and publish it.
  3. Translate your own content, such as products, collections, pages, menus, section text and metaobjects, with Shopify's translation tools.

Text that you enter yourself is not translated automatically. This includes section headings, block text, product descriptions, material entries and delivery metafields.

Right-to-left languages

The theme sets the text direction from the storefront language. For Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, Urdu and other right-to-left languages, the layout is mirrored automatically:

  • Text and layouts read from right to left.
  • The menu drawer opens from the right.
  • The cart drawer and the filter drawer open from the left.

Tenora doesn't include theme translations for right-to-left languages. If you publish one of these languages, translate the theme text as described in the next section.

Edit the theme text

You can change any text that the theme adds, in any language. For example, you can change "Add sample" to "Order a swatch", or translate the unit labels "cm", "in", "kg" and "lb".

  1. Go to Online Store → Themes.
  2. On the Tenora theme card, select the ... (actions) button.
  3. Select Edit default theme content.
  4. Select the language in the language selector.
  5. Search for the text you want to change, for example "Will it fit".
  6. Enter your text.
  7. Select Save.

Country and language selectors

Customers can choose their country or region (which sets the currency) and their language. The selectors appear only when your store has more than one country or more than one language.

The selectors are available in three places:

PlaceHow to control it
HeaderA globe icon opens a panel with the selectors. Use Show country/region and language button in the Header section.
Menu drawer on phones and tabletsShown at the bottom of the menu drawer when your store has more than one country or language.
FooterUse Show country/region selector and Show language selector in the Footer section.

Countries are shown with their name, currency code and currency symbol, for example "Canada (CAD $)".

Country search: When your store sells to more than 8 countries, the country selector has a search field. Customers can search by country name (accents are ignored), country code or currency code. Screen readers announce how many countries match.

To add countries and languages:

  • Countries and regions: Settings → Markets.
  • Languages: Settings → Languages.

Currencies and price formatting

Prices are formatted by Shopify, based on the customer's market and currency. The theme uses your store's currency formats everywhere, including the sample price and the cart.

Show currency codes

Several currencies use the same symbol. For example, "$" is used for US, Canadian and Australian dollars. The Show currency codes setting makes prices clear:

  1. Open the theme editor and select Theme settings → Currency format.
  2. Turn on Show currency codes.
  3. Select Save.

Prices then show as "$12.00 USD" instead of "$12.00" on product pages, product cards, the cart and the cart drawer.

The estimated total in the cart always shows the currency code, even when this setting is off, so customers always know the currency before checkout.

Recommendation: Turn on Show currency codes if you sell in more than one currency that uses the same symbol.

Taxes and duties

The theme shows a short note under the product price and in the cart. The note follows your Markets settings for taxes and duties. There are four combinations:

Your Markets settingsNote on the product pageNote in the cart
Duties and taxes includedDuties and taxes included.Duties and taxes included. Discounts and shipping calculated at checkout.
Taxes included, duties not includedTaxes included.Taxes included. Discounts and shipping calculated at checkout.
Duties included, taxes not includedDuties included.Duties included. Taxes, discounts and shipping calculated at checkout.
Neither includedNo tax noteTaxes, discounts and shipping calculated at checkout.

If your store has a shipping policy, the word "Shipping" in the note links to it. To add a shipping policy, go to Settings → Policies.

To change whether prices include taxes or duties, go to Settings → Taxes and duties in your Shopify admin. The theme updates the notes automatically.

Checkout

Checkout is run by Shopify, not by the theme. The theme sends customers from the cart drawer or the cart page to Shopify's checkout with their cart, currency and language.

  • The cart page and the cart drawer can show accelerated checkout buttons, such as Shop Pay, PayPal and Apple Pay, when your store offers them. In the cart drawer, use Show dynamic checkout buttons in the Cart drawer section.
  • The product page can show dynamic checkout buttons. Use Show dynamic checkout buttons in the Buy buttons block.
  • Payment icons in the footer show the payment methods your store accepts. Use Show payment icons in the Footer section.
